Scout Returns Home

Brennan Hawkins returns home

Brennan Hawkins is out of the hospital. The eleven-year-old was found yesterday in the Utah wilderness after vanishing Friday.

A spokeswoman for Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City says he was allowed to go home early this morning after they gave him some fluids and made sure he was able to eat. And she says the family was anxious to get him home.

The uncle of Brennan Hawkins says his nephew is in good spirits despite a four-day ordeal lost in the Utah mountains after getting separated from his scout camp. Bob Hawkins said  the boy was joking around and "looks great." He says no one is pressing Brennan yet for details of his ordeal and how it came about.

Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds says it was "very surreal" when rain and even some snow rolled in about two hours after the boy was found yesterday. He says the deteriorating weather would have made survival much more difficult.

Edmunds says the boy, who had been taught not to talk to strangers, actually avoided some rescuers.

Hawkins also says the family has a strong religious faith that saw them through the four days he was missing.
