HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A new traffic pattern change will be taking place this weekend on Interstate 71 north of the tunnel.

There will be lane and ramp closures to prepare for the traffic pattern  shift, along with a major detour for all truck traffic traveling north on I-71.

Starting Thursday, April 6, work crews will be setting a portable concrete barrier in place.

Crews will block one lane of southbound I-71 from just north of the exit to southbound I-471 and continuing to the pedestrian bridge.

They will block one lane on northbound I-71 from south of the Lytle Tunnel to the 5th Street ramp north of the tunnel.

The closures will be overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday.

On Saturday, work crews will block one lane on northbound I-71 from south of the tunnel to the 5th Street ramp, this will be from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, April 9.

Once complete, the northbound traffic will be shifted to the southbound side from just north of the tunnel and shift back to the northbound side just south of I-471.

This means, the 2nd St. exit to northbound I-71 will be open and the 5th St. ramp to northbound I-71 will be closed.

The detour uses Walnut and 2nd streets or Sycamore, 3rd and Walnut streets to I-71 ramp.

The 3rd St. exit from SB I-71 will remain closed.  The ramp will remain closed through the duration of southbound and northbound bridge deck work which should finish up in September.

The detour for the Third Street closures is to take the Gilbert exit, to E. 8th, Sycamore and 3rd streets. Ramp is closed

ALL NORTHBOUND I- 75 and I-71 TRUCK TRAFFIC MUST USE I-75: Head north on 75 to east on the Norwood Lateral then back to I-71.

OR  east on I-275 to north on I-471 back to northbound I-71 this will be UNTIL approximately September, 2017.
