Pictures captured in a Middletown Kroger parking lot show an apparent overdose.

The picture shows one man in a car slumped over with the door open and another man slumped over on the ground in the Kroger parking lot along Oxford State Road.

“I have sympathy for the parents,” said Michelle Deaton who lost her daughter on Jan. 10 due to an drug overdose.

A viewer who snapped the pictures said a third ran from the scene as soon as help arrived. The men were revived and the Monroe Rescue Squad along with the Butler County Sheriff's office responded.

Deaton is speaking out because she said people shouldn't be so harsh when it comes to addicts.

“They are in a dark place as it is, but if they keep seeing people say, 'let them die, let them die,' they are going to think they are not worthy of help," she said.

Last year in Butler County there were 192 drug overdose deaths which was up slightly from 2015 which saw 189.

The problem doesn't impact just the addict, but children as well.

According to the Attorney General, 77 percent of children were taken from homes in Brown County due to parental drug use. Clermont saw 56 percent, while Butler had 46 percent removed in 2015.

Deaton said she feels for other parents like her who are the parents of addicts.

“One day they may wake up and say, ‘hey my family really cares about me. I am going to change today.’ There's always that chance," she said.
