CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

High water from heavy rains took West Side residents by surprise overnight, washing out part of a road, stranding some motorists, flooding basements and closing a highway, according to Cincinnati police and Hamilton County dispatchers.

The most startling storm damage washed out parts of a Green Township road.

The 1400 block of Van Blaircum Road in Mack South near Cleves Warsaw Pike remains closed this morning.

Cincinnati police and fire crews rescued a couple of motorists trapped in their vehicles Sunday night, according to police.

Motorists were rescued on Gest Street in Queensgate about 7 p.m.  and over on Sunset Avenue in West Price Hill shortly after.

In Delhi Township, fire crews pulled a man from his disabled vehicle on Rapid Run Road near Hillside Avenue about 9:15 p.m., according to Hamilton County dispatchers.

High water also shut down northbound Interstate75 at westbound I-74.

The highway is back open this morning.

Residents on Shirley Avenue in Westwood were hit with flooded basements, police said.

The 2700 block of Losantiville Avenue in Pleasant Ridge was blocked by a downed tree and wires early Monday.
