NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -

Bond was set at $1 million Thursday morning for a Campbell County man charged with murder in his wife's shooting.

John "Will" Allender, 38, appeared via video from the county jail for a brief arraignment.

Should he make bond, Allender was ordered not to have contact with his children because they are potential witnesses in the case.

They were home when authorities say he shot and killed his wife, Cheryl Allender, 37.

Her body was found in the 1000 block of Mary Ingels Highway in Mentor.

She was the mother of six children, according to relatives.

The couple was splitting up, a neighbor tells FOX19 NOW.

Allender walked out of the house and waited on the porch until officers arrived, the neighbor said.

"I heard they were getting a divorce, and when I drove by they were out in front of the yard. I should have said something, but I didn't. I drove on and went to the doctor... my wife called and said there was a shooting," said the neighbor, who asked to not be identified.
