On Saturday afternoon, a park bench memorial and dedication was held at a Mt Auburn playground for two young lives tragically cut short by gunshots.

5-year-old Daniel Redmond-Hamilton died in 2014 and 9-year-old Alexandrea Thompson died in January. There was an arrest made in Daniel's case but not Alexandrea's.

"We have to constantly remind folks that this thing did happened, that it's not something we want swept under the rug. There's still people out there with information,” said Peterson Mingo with the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission.

The very park that kids are playing in today is the same park 9-year-old Alexandrea played in, now she's memorialized here. Alexandrea's father, Hudson Thompson, was also shot that day back in January, when multiple suspects allegedly entered the home and started shooting.

"My daughter is so amazing and I can't believe that she is gone, it's unreal,” said Thompson.

Thompson was visibly very emotional at times during the dedication. Also speaking were the parents of Daniel Hamilton. Thompson is happy that his daughter is not forgotten.

"Everybody loved my daughter and she so playful and this and that. I'm glad they did this and recognized her,” said Thompson.

The hope now is that anyone with information about Alexandrea's murder will come forward.

"You have to just do what your heart needs to do. It's time a nine-year-old little girl, come on man. It's time to get involve,” said Mitchell Morris with Phoenix Outreach & Mentoring.

Getting involve so that these kids here get a chance to grow up.
