Drink MadTree, plant a tree, celebrate Arbor Day

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19) - MadTree Brewing is celebrating Arbor Day this year by giving away Dawn Redwood tree saplings to plant with the purchase of a MadTree beer in the taproom.

The Dawn Redwood tree, once thought to be extinct, is being replanted around the globe to regain its once mighty footprint in the Northern Hemisphere.

The trees can grow to be more than 100 feet tall, but can be kept to garden-size with some pruning.  Dawn Redwood fossils date back to Mesozoic times, some 150 million years ago.

Living Dawn Redwoods were first "discovered" in West Central China in 1941.

"Not only is it part of our name, but environmental sustainability is very near and dear to our hearts as evidenced by our support of Green Umbrella as one of the five core charities we support year-round," said MadTree Brewing sales director, Adam Lane. "Plus, the story behind this specific tree is so cool and we wanted to make it easy for MadTree fans to help plant more than 3,000 trees."
