Man Handcuffed During Mass

Man arrested after handcuffing himself to chair during Mass

A man has been arrested in Los Angeles after he handcuffed himself to a chair during a Mass.

Police say several thousand people were at the service when the man walked toward the altar and cuffed himself to the chair of Cardinal Roger Mahony.  The man says he disturbed the service to protest the church's handling of allegedly abusive priests, saying people should hear "the victims' stories from the victims themselves."

About 200 members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests were protesting outside the cathedral.  A spokesman, however, says the man acted without the knowledge of the group.
