No Retirement In The Supreme Court This Term

No retirement announcements as court ends its term

Supreme Court has ended its term without announcing any retirements.

There's been a lot of speculation that Chief Justice William Rehnquist, 80, will retire. He has been treated for thyroid cancer and uses a trachea tube to help him breathe.

In court today, Rehnquist struggled to talk.  He breathed heavily as he thanked court employees for their work over the past year, then adjourned the term.

There's also been talk that Justice Sandra Day O'Connor,75, might step down. A retirement announcement could still come by news release or a letter to the president.
