New York City transit riders could face new restrictions on city subways
New York City subway riders are facing a new list of rules, including a ban on bringing their morning coffee onto the trains.
According to published reports, riders will also be forbidden from walking between cars when the trains are rolling. There will also be no straddling of bicycles or using a skateboard or in-line skates inside the cars.
The ban on coffee-drinking extends to any type of beverage from an open container, including alcohol. A transit official tells the New York Times the new rules take effect October first and that they're designed to promote safety.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has reportedly drawn up fines for violators ranging between 25 and 50 dollars.
