Claim Of Responsibility

Claim of responsibility for London blasts

There is reportedly an Internet claim of responsibility in today's London blasts. A group identifying itself as "The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe" has posted a message saying the blasts were in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

However, its authenticity hasn't been confirmed. An Arabic-language news Web site and a German magazine say the message was published on a Web site popular with Islamic militants. The statement also threatened attacks in Italy and Denmark.

The group al-Qaida in Europe claimed responsibility for the last major attack in Europe -- a string of bombs that hit commuter trains in Madrid, Spain, in March 2004, killing 191 people.
