CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

It's up to Reds fans to make sure Zack Cozart becomes the proud new owner of a donkey by voting him to the 2017 All-Star Game.

The shortstop's lead has dropped by over 100,000 votes with 12 hours remaining of All-Star fan voting.

Cozart’s lead of 258,074 votes on Monday over Los Angeles Dodgers' shortstop Corey Seager has dropped to 108,282 votes. Cozart currently leads all National League shortstops with 2,260,205 votes.

It would be Cozart's first All-Star selection.

Polls close Thursday night at 11:59 p.m.

If Cozart is voted to All-Star roster, teammate Joey Votto will buy him a donkey.

"I've got a donkey in the works," Votto said to reporters in the locker room Wednesday. Earlier, he was also wearing a donkey costume for an apparent spot on ESPN.

From an interview with MLB Network Radio:

“I don’t know why I like donkeys so much, maybe because they look like they’re real chill,” said Cozart. “About a mile away from our spring training facility in Arizona, there’s a donkey farm where you can feed the donkeys. Old Jo-Vo was like, ‘You make the All-Star team, I’m going to get you a donkey.’ I’m like, ‘Joey, I don’t need a donkey right now.’ But if anybody knows Joey, I do and if that happens he’s going to show up with a donkey somehow.”

Cozart is in the midst of a career season -- hitting .320 with nine homers and a .966 OPS entering Thursday.

He leads all NL shortstops in batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage.
