CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

A couple of years ago, I met with Jeff Berding, before he became President and General Manager of FC Cincinnati.

He told me about his big move -- to start a professional soccer club right here in Cincinnati.

It sounded great, but I thought, is there really enough room for another sports team?

After all, we've got the Bengals, the Reds and even the Cyclones.

Obviously, we now know that there is plenty of room.

The match set an Open Cup attendance record for a non-final match.

On a Wednesday night, more than 32,000 people packed Nippert Stadium to see FC Cincinnati beat a Major League soccer team.

The match was also seen by a national audience on ESPN.

Here in Cincinnati, it drew almost a 4 rating, or about another 34 thousand people.

FC Cincinnati will travel to Miami to the quarterfinal round.   And, will continue its quest to become one of the four clubs to grab a MLS expansion bid.

All I can say is good for you Jeff Berding and FC Cincinnati.  The team is quickly becoming another shining star in our great city.
