CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

Zack Cozart was activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Cozart was placed on the 10-day disabled list following a strained right quad he encountered trying to beat out an infield single during the Reds loss to the Dodgers.

The quad injury first appeared in the middle of May, but Cozart believed he could play through the injury.

“It’s been just trying to pace myself and not trying to overdo it and saving when I can run for when I need to run,” Cozart said. “It was getting to the point where it was smart to take a couple of days and let it calm down, get some of the swelling out of there and get back to it.”

The 31-year old National League All-Star hopeful leads qualifying shortstops in batting average (.252) and OBP (.300) despite the hiatus.
