VANDALIA, OH (FOX19 NOW) -

A trooper fatally shot a knife-wielding Cincinnati man and murder suspect near Dayton after he rammed his car into the rear of a patrol vehicle early Tuesday, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the man shot and killed as 36-year-old Dana Dubose.

Investigators determined he was a suspect in a homicide in Springfield Township Monday night.

Princess Brown, 32, was found dead with stab wounds inside a residence in the 1200 block of Murat Court just before midnight, Springfield Township police said in a prepared statement.

Detectives learned Dubose fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Cobalt just prior to officers’ arrival, according to police.

While investigating the homicide, detectives received information that Dubose had traveled to Vandalia near Dayton.

That's where they say he rammed into the back of a trooper's marked patrol vehicle that was on a traffic stop about 1 a.m.

Dubose refused commands from police to drop a weapon and lunged at the trooper with the knife extended, according to police.

The trooper fired one round from the service weapon, striking Dubose officials said.

Emergency vehicles were immediately called, but Dubose died at the scene.

The trooper was recovering from injuries, the Associated Press reports.

Both incidents remains under investigation by Springfield Township police, Vandalia police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information related to either incident is asked to contact Springfield Township Police Department: 513: 729-1300, or Ohio State Highway Patrol: 937-832-4794
