SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) -

A missing girl from Springdale has been found safe, police announced Tuesday.

Officials said Reina Marroquin, 13, ran away from home, but her case made local headlines Monday after police arrested a man accused of extorting the girl's mother for information on her whereabouts.

Luis Tomas-Ramirez called Marroquin’s mother over the weekend and threatened she would never see her daughter again if she didn’t pay up, according to a police report.

He claimed to know Marroquin's whereabouts and tried to extort money in exchange for information, police said.

The suspect repeated the threat when he showed up at the mother’s door with some of Marroquin’s clothing items, a police report reads.

Police said Tomas-Ramierz admitted to taking Marroquin out for a drink after she was reported missing, but he then dropped her off at home.

Tomas-Ramierz and Marroquin live in the same apartment complex.

Police did not say where Marroquin was located

Tomas-Ramierz is charged extortion, criminal child enticement and interference with custody.
