MASON, OH (AP) - One month before the top tennis players in the world converge on Mason for the 2017 Western & Southern Open tennis tournament, $5 million in improvements are underway, according to the tournament's website.
Among the upgrades:
-A 17th court
-An additional practice court
-Lights to two more courts, making 8 courts lit
-The paved "Diamond Lot" expanded from 245 to 445 spots
Grading and drainage work is being done to try and improve on parking problems that occurred last year due to record rainfall.
The tournament will announce the players in the field on Thursday.
Marin Cilic of Croatia won last year's men's singles title. Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic won last year's singles title.
This year's tournament runs from August 12-20.
