Police: Child found covered in feces eating from garbage

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Police in Middletown said they found a boy that was only wearing a diaper covered in feces eating from a garbage can on Wednesday.

According to the police report, the child was standing in the alley behind 1807 Tytus Avenue. The officer stated he was covered in feces, and when they attempted to make contact with the juvenile he began going through the garbage.

"He pulled out a glass jar containing baking flour, took the lid off and began eating the flour out of the jar with his poop covered hands," the report reads.

After being asked to stop, he then threw the jar of flour, began balling it up, eating it and throwing it at the officer and resident of the home, police said.

The juvenile was then secured in the back of an officers car while they looked for his family.

Around 1:30 p.m., a woman came up to the officers stating her autistic son was missing, and identified the child in the back of the police car as her son.

The mother told police he had been missing for approximately 20 minutes.

When authorities arrived at the residence, they were "immediately overcome with the strong odor human urine and fecal matter, as well as the odor
of trash and overall filth," according to the police report.

Police said they saw dozens of cockroaches and what appeared to be bed bugs.

The mother told police she was on the computer when the boy wandered off.

She hasn't been charged with any crimes.

The juvenile is in the care of Butler County Children Services.
