CARLISLE, OH (FOX19) -

An investigation is ongoing after a report of skeletal remains were found in the backyard of a home in Carlisle.

Warren County Detective Lieutenant Jon Faine said the remains have been recovered from behind the home, and they appear to have been there 10 to 12 weeks.

According to initial reports, investigators believe the remains are that of a stillborn baby.

The remains have been taken to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory for analysis.

Investigators  roped off the home with crime scene tape.

Authorities dug in a tree lined area behind the house on Eagle Ridge Drive.

Tyler Akers lives two doors down and watched as detectives dug up his neighbors backyard near the tree line - then surrounded the area with a privacy tent.

"They just had buckets and shovels walking to the back yard," he said.

Neighbors said they're worried for the family who lives there, and that nothing like this has ever happened in their small town.

Taylor Keeton knows the family well and hopes they are OK no matters what happens after this gruesome discovery.

"Nothing like this has ever happened in Carlisle... it's just crazy you grow up in a small town."

The incident remains under investigation.
