GREENDALE, IN (FOX19) -

Police in Indiana have arrested two people for allowing their son live and play in his own feces, an affidavit filed in Dearborn County claims.

Raymond and Sharon Goodrich confined the 3-year-old boy behind two stacked child gates inside their Greendale home, court records show.

The area contained a bathroom, “but the bathroom was locked and blocked with items where the child [did] not have the ability to gain entry into the bathroom,” police said wrote in the affidavit.

Investigators found the child covered in feces when they were called to the home on June 19.

Court documents say the feces was crusted on his legs, hair and in between his toes and hands. His hair was soaked in urine.

The boy’s foster parents washed his hair three times but, according to the report, had to give him a haircut to remove the smell.

A neighbor alerted police to the situation. The neighbor saw the child through the window and thought he was playing with paint. Sharon Goodrich responded by saying, “No he’s not painting he’s playing with shit again,” the affidavit says.

An investigator with Greendale said when he arrived on scene he saw the child’s bed smeared with feces.

“[I} observed feces on the floor of the bedroom which was also covered with food and several diapers which were open,” said Greendale Police Officer Kendle Davis.

Raymond Goodrich told investigators his wife has some mental health issues and a learning disability. He also told them, according to the report, that he felt like the victim. When police asked him why he felt like the victim he allegedly told them because of his nosey {expletive] neighbors calling police about the boy.

Both have been charged with Neglect of a Dependent and criminal confinement.
