CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Novak Djokovic announced Wednesday he will be ending his 2017 season due to a right elbow injury.

With hopes of returning to full health, Djokovic will take a break and skip all tournaments until the end of the season, including the Western & Southern Open in Mason this August.

“All the doctors I’ve consulted, and all the specialists I have visited, in Serbia and all over the world, have agreed that this injury requires rest,” Djokovic explained in the press conference. “A prolonged break from the sport is inevitable.”

Djokovic said the injury is a result of excessive playing and has caused issues with his serving.

The Western & Southern Open begins Aug. 12 and will feature some of the biggest stars in tennis, such as 7-time champion Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki.
