DEARBORN COUNTY, IN (FOX19) - One of the victims in a double shooting was shot while mowing her yard Friday, her husband told 911 dispatchers.
Police found 30-year-old Brittany Black, shot in the yard of her home in the 9300 block of State Route 48. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Her husband, 37-year-old Kyle Black, was also shot outside of the residence. He then called 911 and told dispatchers he had no idea who fired the shots. He remains in critical condition.
The couple's neighbor, Terry Storey, was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder.
Police said Storey pulled a 12-guage shotgun on Brittany Black and shot her in the back of the head. Her husband was hit in the torso.
Dearborn Circuit Court Judge James Humphrey denied bond for Storey in his court appearance Monday.
"We believe the evidence will show that the defendant removed and threw into the trash two spent 12-gauge shotgun casings and he did this to intent to prevent these from being produced as evidence," Prosecutor Lynn Deddens said.
At one point, Storey yelled out in court, "I didn't have a shotgun and I didn't shoot anybody."
The judge scolded Storey several times for interrupting during his court appearance.
When the judge asked Storey if he could read and understand English, Storey replied, "Better than you."
The motive for the shooting has not been revealed.
Storey is scheduled back in court on Oct. 3 for a pre-trial hearing.
