Gregory Orona Jr. will spend 10 years behind bars for the death of his wife in December 2016.

A Butler County Judge handed down the sentence Tuesday and also added an additional three years for a gun charge.

Orona admitted to killing Cassie Sanders, police said. He was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Middletown Police said Orona grabbed a shotgun and killed his wife inside a home on Wilbraham Road. The pair had been arguing before the shooting, according to investigators.

Authorities said there was a history of domestic issues between Sanders and Orona.

Sanders’ aunt said her niece “got mixed up with a monster.”

The 42-year-old was a kindergarten teacher and mother to a teenage daughter.

Family members had asked the judge to hand Orona the maximum prison sentence.
