Body removed from burned Price Hill home after 8 hour standoff

PRICE HILL, OH (FOX19) - The body of a man who barricaded himself in a home on Atson Lane in Price Hill for nearly eight hours has been removed, according to police.

Police and SWAT teams were first called to the scene just after 10 a.m. Friday where a husband took his wife hostage.

Police said negotiations failed and the man set the house on fire, but have not said how the man died.

He was the only person inside the home at the time the house caught fire, according to police.

Officials at the home also removed several guns from the residence.

The wife was able to make it out of the home in good condition.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

She said he came up to her Friday morning as she was going to work. She said he then put a knife to her throat, grabbed her hair and took her inside the house where she would be trapped for hours.

During negotiations, she said her husband told them he wanted a cigarette and an officer came and placed on near the door. She said she saw that as her opportunity, and ran out the back towards safety.

A family friend said something similar has happened before.

"About a month ago, he pulled a gun out and we got everyone out the house," Amanda Sharp said.

The identity of the man has not been released at this time.
