CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

Thousands will hit the Ohio River Saturday as they celebrate and participate in the 16th annual Paddlefest.

Organizers call the event "playtime for paddlers," giving 2,000 participants a unique and up-close experience as they cruise down nine miles of the river.

There will be "party points" set up along the shoreline as well as live music and costumes.

The U.S. Coast Guard will close the Ohio River to commercial and power boat traffic from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. so boaters won't have to worry about moving out of the way of barges.

New this year will be Rhythm on the River, which is a handful of bands that will take to the river on houseboats to perform for paddlers, from steel drums to Celtic and Bluegrass music.
