Counselors charged with murder in death of boy at camp for troubled youth

Murder, cruelty and manslaughter charges have been filed against six counselors at a camp for troubled boys in the North Georgia mountains.

The counselors are accused of restraining a 13-year-old boy face down and denying the boy his asthma inhaler. He died the next day.

It happened last April at the Appalachian Wilderness Camp in Cleveland, Georgia, after the boy had angrily confronted a counselor for withholding his food as a punishment. An attorney for one of the counselors says they were doing what they were trained to do. But the state office that oversees the camp says "We do not train staff to do face-down restraints."

The boy had been sent to the camp in February and was on probation for hitting his grandmother and threatening her with a knife.
