Thousands of students in the Tri-State's largest school district head back to class Wednesday.
Summer break is officially over for Cincinnati Public Schools.
Hundreds of pupils will get an extra warm welcome for the 2017-2018 school year at Rockdale Academy in Avondale.
Students will be enthusiastically greeted starting at 6:15 a.m. by neighbors, educators, community leaders and teachers.
Rockdale Academy officials said they thought it was also important to encourage 100 professional men to participate.
School leaders put out a call for 100 African-American men, saying they invited members of the Cincinnati NAACP, Cincinnati chapter of the National Action Network, pastors and other concerned men.
Talk show hosts who are prominent in Cincinnati's black community, Lincoln Ware and Nathan Ivey, were among the first to sign up to show their support of the students.
The youngsters need to know they are they appreciated and supported by their community, Ware said.
