GOSHEN, OH (FOX19) -

A sad update involving a boy who recently received the gift of a lifetime: a new heart.

Peyton West, 13, died Thursday.

The Goshen teen was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. HLHS is a birth defect that is caused when the left side of the heart does not form properly.

In March, he received a heart transplant, and then learned he was leaving the hospital in July.

According to the Pray for Peyton Facebook page, he later began coughing and feeling tired all of the time. He was admitted back into the hospital again at the end of July.

A community prayer vigil is planned for Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at the Goshen football field.

Goshen Schools sent this message to parents, "Peyton's courage and wonderful personality are well-known to the entire Goshen community, and his loss is deeply felt by all. We all loved Peyton and we are truly heartbroken with this loss."
