EAST PRICE HILL (FOX19) -

A Cincinnati firefighter was assaulted while on duty responding to a medical run overnight, a fire official said.

A man punched the firefighter in the eye as he and other first responders got off a fire truck in the 3000 block of West 8th Street near Purcell Avenue about midnight, said District 2 Fire Chief Thomas Parker.

The crew was in the area responding to a report of a sick woman.

They immediately summoned more firefighters to back them up, Parker said.

They also alerted police.

The firefighter, whose name was not released, suffered a swollen eye with a cut underneath it, Parker said.

The firefighter refused transport to a hospital and remained on duty.

He was not available to talk, Parker said: “He’s fine. He stayed working.”

Police searched for the suspect, but he fled and remains at large.

His description was not immediately available.

The woman told authorities she did not know the suspect, but neighbors said the two have been seen together, Parker said.

She did not require transport to a hospital for treatment, he added.
