Bush, Roberts Have Sendoff

Bush, Roberts have coffee in confirmation sendoff

President Bush is confident his choice for the Supreme Court, federal appeals judge John Roberts, will get a quick and fair hearing on Capitol Hill.

Bush and Roberts had coffee this morning at the White House, with Bush commenting to reporters afterward that he wished Roberts "all the best" through the confirmation process. Bush also says he hopes the Senate will move on the nomination in a dignified and civil way.

From the White House, Roberts moves on to meetings today with Republican and Democrat leaders in the Senate. The lawmakers will decide whether the 50-year-old conservative will become the first new Supreme Court justice in more than a decade.

Republican are calling Roberts a good choice while Democrats say Roberts' record needs a thorough going-over.
