WYOMING, OH (FOX19) -

A Wyoming High School staff member received a threatening email Monday, but school officials said it is not a credible threat.

The email did not mention Wyoming High School by name and was similar in nature to emails received by other high schools around the country in the past few years that were determined to be hoaxes, according to an email to parents from Superintendent Susan Lang.

She said school and police officials worked together to:

  • Ensure that doors at all school buildings were secure
  • Check footage from video cameras located around the high school for suspicious activity
  • Determine that there was no threat through the use of a canine working dog
  • Asked the company that supports the email service from which the email was received to freeze the account. The Wyoming Police Department will continue to work with the company to identify the source

"Student safety is the number one priority at Wyoming City Schools. Thank you for your continued support," her email concludes.

Wyoming police said they had no immediate comment. They are working to gather more information from the school district, they said, and expect to put out their own prepared statement later Monday.
