Gitmo Detainees Released

PENTAGON (AP) - The Pentagon says it has released eight more detainees from the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

One of the detainees was transferred to authorities in Spain for further proceedings, while the other seven were released to other nations, including Sudan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Three of the detainees were found to no longer be enemy combatants.

The Pentagon won't provide other details, citing operational and security considerations

With the latest releases, just over 500 detainees remain at Guantanamo, mostly Afghans, Pakistanis and others captured after the US invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001.

More than 240 detainees have been released or transferred elsewhere.
