FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Florida judge has overturned a medical examiner's ruling that a nationally known Indiana cardiologist who crashed his van into a tree in Fernandina Beach committed suicide.
Circuit Judge Brian Davis ruled yesterday that Thomas Linnemeier's 2000 death should be legally classified as undetermined.
Linnemeier's family had sued Medical Examiner Margarita Arruza to change her ruling.
Davis said the original cause of death ruling was "not well founded" because it did not consider Linnemeier's history of heart problems.
Davis said the medical examiner also did not take into account evidence that contradicted a suicide, such as detailed itineraries the doctor left about a daughter's upcoming visit and business travel.
