The Tennessee Valley Authority says the heat wave pushed electricity demand to record levels for a second consecutive day.
TVA announced this morning that the power demand in the seven-state region reached 31-thousand-935 megawatts at five pm Eastern time yesterday. That broke a previous an all-time peak record of 31-thousand-703 megawatts set Monday.
The average temperature across the Tennessee Valley was 95 degrees yesterday afternoon. TVA supplies electricity to 62 industries and 158 distributors serving eight and a half million consumers in Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia.
