SPRINGFIELD TWP., OH (FOX19) -

Traffic signs around the city are asking drivers to be on the lookout for a missing Springfield Township firefighter.

Lt. Jeff Leininger went missing from his Springdale home around 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to Springfield Township Chief Robert Leininger (no relation).

Lt. Leininger did not take his cell phone.

Chief Leininger said it is highly unusual for him to not be in contact with his family. The chief Leininger seemed upbeat and smiling as usual when he saw him Sunday.

Springdale Police said they are concerned he may hurt himself. His wife called Springdale Police after finding a note from him and two guns missing, Chief Leininger said.

"He’s been a very valued member of our community, been a very valued member of our department and we don't really care about the circumstances, we  just want Jeff to come home," said Township Administrator Mike Hinnenkamp.

Lt. Leininger is believed to be driving a 2007 Ford F150 with the license plate SQELCH.

If you have see him or his truck, you're asked to call 911.
