DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

Cincinnati police arrested a suspect one week after a woman was found dead from a vicious attack in a Downtown alley.

William Sanford, 64, of Over-the-Rhine is held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on one count of murder.

He is scheduled to face a judge Friday morning.

Police say he killed Tracy Hawes, 47, on Oct. 4.

Officers responded to a call of someone screaming in  Pendery Alley near Race and Court streets.

She was found with severe head injuries from what appeared to be a beating from a blunt object such as a rock, police said at the time.

Police have not said if the two knew each other or if she was killed during another offense such as robbery or rape.

Cincinnati police released 911 calls that were made the night of the incident.

Caller: "Hi there - I just heard some screams outside my window. It was a lot of 'Help, help!' 'Stop, stop."

Dispatcher: "What are they saying exactly?"

Caller: "'Stop, I don't want to touch you, quit it, stop it.' We hear somebody being thrown up against a fence."
