BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - An eight-week-old puppy is recovering after apparent abuse forced veterinarians to amputate the dog's leg.

Bonnie Brown with Sweet Dream House Rescue said "Mojo" went through some type of blunt force trauma to his leg. She believes the previous owner may have been responsible.

"There should be a way to prohibit people from owning animals," Brown said.

MoJo and sister JoJo were removed from the home and are expected to be OK. The pups will be available for adoption sometime in the next two to three months, rescuers say.

Brown says she did not believe charges were filed against the previous owner.

"That happens a lot and a lot of it is due to our system it's very hard to prosecute someone," she said.
