CINCINNATI (FOX19 NOW/AP) - - Medical marijuana will soon be growing in Monroe.
Ohio has approved 24 licenses to cultivate medical marijuana in the state, and the town in Butler County was selected out of 100 applications.
Ohio's medical marijuana program was formed when state lawmakers passed a law in May 2016.
The Monroe warehouse will have a growing area of about 3,000 sq. ft. It will grow the marijuana for those who have one of 21 qualifying medical conditions as well as a prescription from a physician.
A statement from the Ohio Cannabis Association reads:
The licenses were granted based on how the businesses plan to grow the crop, secure their facilities, and comply with state regulations.
The Monroe facility will be growing marijuana in a plot about the size of a tennis court. The state of Ohio is about to grant licenses which would expand that to about the size of a football field.
