FINNEYTOWN, OH (FOX19) - Flood waters rushed the library at a Finneytown elementary school, destroying books and forcing officials to close the school Monday.
Surveillance cameras captured water pouring through the door and into Whitaker Elementary School. It happened in the overnight hours when no students or staff were at the school.
"A lot of rain that happened very quickly just came into a stairwell, came down through a stairwell, pushed through a door into our library and pretty much flooded our entire library," said Krista Ramsey, Public Information Officer for Finneytown Schools.
Students will return to school on Wednesday.
"And while things like doors can be fixed, unfortunately we also lost a lot of books," Ramsey said. "This is a favorite place for our students and it was just kind of a heartbreaking scene this morning."
Reading schools were also closed Monday due to flood damage.
