WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Some four-legged officers are now safer on the job.

West Chester Police Department's K9 Ciro and Blek received bullet and stab protective vests from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The dogs' vests are sponsored by Vikki Johnston of West Chester and are embroidered with the sentiment, "Bless and protect this K9 and their partner."

Blek and handler Officer Rob Obermeyer have worked together since Blek joined WCPD in 2011.

Ciro joined the department in 2015 and has worked with handler Officer Michael Blankenship for just less than a year.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States
