CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Kelly Mehlman greeted family and friends at The Public House for a fundraiser being held to help her with medical bills.
She contracted the West Nile Virus in August. She's out of the hospital, but is still recovering.
The "Defile the Nile" fundraiser is not only helping Mehlman with her medical cost but it's also serving as an inspiration.
"It's very humbling and its definitely something that makes me want to even more want to get better. To do it for them because they did all this for me," Mehlman said.
She admits it's been a little frustrating trying to regain her mobility, buts she not going to stop. She has a 7-year-old son and she looks forward to getting back to taking him to the park.
"Cause we spend a lot of time together just me and him just going out and doing things and going to the park and stuff like that, we can't do any of that right now," Mehlman said.
She said her son helps her with her physical therapy. For now, she said it's just a matter time before thing are back to normal.
The family has set up a YouCaring account to help with her medical expenses.
