HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -

The holiday season is fast approaching, and police believe that means package thieves are on the prowl.

Mt. Healthy Police have said they are already investigating reports of package thefts, and a Hamilton man said he caught a thief red-handed on camera.

In the video from the man's Hamilton home, you can see a woman walking along the street. She then walks up and onto the man's porch, picks up a package and walks away.

"It is frustrating, and I think it just makes you feel violated more than anything," the Hamilton man said.

It's not the first time it has happened, and police do not believe it will be the last.

With holidays coming up, more and more shoppers are looking to the internet to snag the hottest deals, but officials have said those home deliveries often turn into targets.

"There could be people working together and targeting, absolutely, seeing what cars are in the driveway, in front of the house, on the street, whatever," the Hamilton man said.

There are ways to keep your parcels protected.

Mt. Healthy Police suggest tracking all of your deliveries and sending them to safe spots where you can pick them up in person.

"You can have it taken to UPS or you can have it taken to the post office and left there. You just have the inconvenience of picking it up, but then you have that safeguard of not having to worry about it," the Hamilton man said. "I personally can have it shipped to my work."

Some local police departments, like Colerain Township Police, are also offering programs where people can have their online orders shipped to the department for safekeeping.

The Hamilton man who caught a suspect on camera said he did report the incident to police.
