GUILFORD, IN (FOX19) -

For the second time in nearly three weeks, a semi tractor-trailer hauling pigs crashed on State Route 1 in southeastern Indiana, according to Dearborn County dispatchers.

The accident was reported on State Route 1 between Salt Fork and Geogetown roads about 1 a.m. Tuesday, they said.

The semi ran off the road for an unknown reason and hit some mud that "sucked him in," overturning the vehicle, said Sgt. John Evans with the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office.

Seventy-seven pigs in all were on board and became trapped on the vehicle, he said.

The driver was not hurt, but several pigs were, authorities said.

"The pigs are not all OK," a dispatcher said. "A bunch of them got hurt.  We have a vet going out there to euthanize some of them."

Deputies shut down State Route 1 at 4:50 a.m.

The road will remain closed "indefinitely" until the pigs can be moved to another vehicle, Evans said.

A semi hauling pigs also crashed on Nov. 3 in the 24000 block of State Route 1 in Dover.
