An employee at Franklin City Schools is under criminal investigation for reported sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old student.

Franklin Police on Tuesday said the female employee resigned from her position after being placed on administrative leave.

The staff member was a cafeteria worker and night shift custodian. Authorities do not believe that any improper conduct occurred on school grounds or during school hours.

The allegations came to light Monday, police said.

"Initial investigation has revealed that the school administration conducted an administrative inquiry into rumors of sexual misconduct by a school employee with a 15 year old student. Within two hours, the parent, student and employee were all interviewed by school staff," said Chief Russ Whitman.

Police said no criminal charges have been filed as the investigation is ongoing.

The Franklin City School District is located in Warren County. The district has approximately 3500 students and eight schools.

More information is expected to be released at a 2 p.m. press conference. FOX19 NOW will update this story.
