Indiana teacher charged with drug possession

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A northwestern Indiana high school teacher has been charged with drug possession after students allegedly saw her with drugs in her classroom.

The Post-Tribune reports that 24-year-old Samantha Cox was formally charged on Monday.

A probable cause affidavit says officers were called to Lake Central High School in St. John last week after students told their principal they saw the English teacher with drugs. The affidavit says one student recorded a video of what appeared to be Cox ingesting "an illegal substance."

Investigators say Cox told police she'd purchased $160 worth of cocaine before arriving at the school.

Lake Central Superintendent Larry Veracco says principals took "swift and forceful action." He declines to confirm if Cox was still employed, saying it was part of an ongoing investigation.
