Recipe: Deep fried chili coneys

FOX19 - Jared Bowers with Jungle Jim's Creative Services has an indulgent twist on a Cincinnati Classic with his "Chili Rocks Chunky 'Nati Deep Fried Coneys."

What you'll need: 

Chili Rocks Chunky 'Nati Chili (See recipe below)

Hot dogs

Hot dog buns

12 inch tortillas

Cheddar Jack Cheese

Chili Rocks Mild Green Chilies Salsa (can also substitute our medium, hot, or extra hot salsa)


Lay the tortilla on a flat surface

Sprinkle a layer of cheddar jack cheese on the center portion of the tortilla

Spoon a light layer of Chili Rocks Chunky 'Nati Chili over the cheese

Sprinkle a little cheddar jack cheese over the chili

Place a hot dog bun on the cheese

Squeeze a line of Chili Rocks Fiery Peppers Mustard in the crease of the bun

Place a hot dog on the mustard

Spoon a layer of Chili Rocks Chunky 'Nati Chili over the dog

Sprinkle cheese generously over the chili

Carefully fold the tortilla over the coney bottom first, followed by the sides, and then fold the top over the sides making sure that none of the ingredients are exposed.

Carefully place the sandwich in a fryer basket, and then cover with another basket before placing into the hot fryer.

Deep fry for about 2 minutes, then remove from fryer.

Allow to cool for a minute or so, and then cut diagonally to reveal the best coney you have ever eaten!

Recipe for Chili Rocks Chunky 'Nati Chili:

What you'll need:

1-1/2 lbs. Ground Beef – fine grind

1-1/2 lbs. Ground Beef – course grind

8 ounces chicken broth

1 packets Cincinnati Style Chili Blend

3 tbsp. dark chili powder

3 tsp. ground cumin

12 ounces Chili Rocks Mild Green Chilies Salsa (can also substitute our medium, hot, or extra hot salsa)

12 ounces Chili Rocks Chili Rock'n Bloody Mary Mixer (can also substitute our medium or hot Bloody Mary)

8 ounces Chili Rocks Fiery Peppers Ketchup

6 ounces tomato paste

12 ounces minced onion

4 ounces each – red, yellow, green, & orange bell peppers (may choose any combination)

1 tsp. Chili Rocks FlashOver FarmHouse Garlic Ale Hot Sauce

1 tsp. Chili Rocks Fiery Red Hot Sauce


Combine all together in a six quart crock pot without browning the meat, and place on the high setting for one hour.  Stir ingredients, and then continue on high for another hour.  Stir all again, and reduce heat to low and cook for another four hours stirring occasionally.
