Avondale/Bond Hill Truce

Stanley and Lawrence have been friends since their days at Hughes Center, even then life took them in different directions. Lawrence straight and narrow, and Stanley a little of course. They finally fell upon the same path when the street violence around them escalated in Avondale and Bond Hill.  According to Lawrence Jones, " One of my best friends from Bond Hill, was killed, it's still an unsolved murder, something I still think about."

Today they are 24 and they are co-fouders of a non-profit organization that provides activities to stop street violence like the "First Annual Avondale/Bond Hill Truce Basketball Game." The violence between the neighborhoods they say is based on perceptions, and they believe if you change perceptions, Stanley Newell, " I can almost guarantee it will work, alot of them listen to me they're amazed I'm with the Lord now, I'm off the streets."

Lawrence and Stanley have already held a smaller version of the Avondale/Bond Hill Basketball game, on Sunday nights, and they say there's never been a problem, Lawrence, "Avondale and Bond Hill they can get a long"

The First Annual Avondale/Bond Hill Truce Basketball Game was originally scheduled for Sepetember 3rd. it is now scheduled for September 17th from6:00pm- 10:00pm at Schmidt Field House in North Avondale.
