Convicted Killer, Didn't Mean To Kill Parents

A Montgomery County man scheduled to be executed in 12 days for killing his parents told the state parole board Friday that he didn't mean to do it.

Arthur Baird II says evil forces took over his body and killed his family.

Baird was also sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife, who was seven months pregnant.

He says he knew the murders were taking place, but that he was helpless to stop them.

The killings took place in 1985 at Baird's home and his parents' home in Darlington, about 20 miles south of Lafayette.

Speaking to the board at the Indiana State Prison at Michigan City, Baird asked for clemency on the grounds that he is mentally ill. The hearing continues next week in Indianapolis.
