Survivor Of Houseboat Sinking Says They Didn't See Barge Coming

The lone survivor of a fatal houseboat sinking says he and his four shipmates were partying below deck when a barge struck their boat and sunk it.

David Caudill, 44, of Clermont County, Ohio says they didn't realize the barge was approaching in the early morning hours last Thursday as they floated down the Ohio River near Dayton, Kentucky. Caudill says he fought to get out and get on top of the tow boat.

Caudill also says he and boat owner Gary Betz picked up three men from an encampment frequented by homeless people near Paul Brown Stadium late Wednesday night. Caudill says Betz had worked with one of the men.

Caudill says he was not drinking and declined to comment on whether his companions were.
