College Students Being Schooled on Thieves

Upperclassmen and Ohio college officials are warning freshmen to safeguard their iPods, video game players and other expensive electronic gear.

Jennifer Newell is the assistant dean of students at Ohio Wesleyan University, and she says a laptop is so mobile that one turn of your head and it can disappear. She's reminding students that no one is invincible when it comes to theft.

Newell says holding on to your stuff begins with simple, obvious steps such as keeping doors locked and not letting strangers into a dorm room.

Ohio State's assistant police chief Rick Amweg says valuables should be kept far away from doors, so no one can reach in and snatch them. He adds that thieves like small electronics because they can be sold easily.
